Thorough preparation is critical to achieve the best results with wood oil. The surface must be clean, dry, and completely free from dust, grease, or any contaminants. Any previous coatings, residues, or adhesives must be fully removed before application.
For flooring, sanding should typically progress to 80/120 grit. For furniture, countertops, stairs, and other vertical or detailed surfaces, sanding should continue to 180/220 grit for a smoother finish.
After sanding, vacuum the surface carefully to remove all dust, then wipe it down with a clean microfiber cloth to eliminate any remaining particles.
Once the surface is properly prepared—smooth, clean, and dust-free—it is ready for oil application. Correct preparation ensures even colour development, optimal penetration, and long-lasting protection.

Proper sanding and surface preparation are not optional—they are essential.
When wood is prepared correctly:
The oil penetrates evenly
The finish looks natural and consistent
Protection lasts longer
Maintenance becomes easier
Wood oil performs best when the wood itself is ready.
